From OOPSLA 07 in Montréal

Bon jour! It’s almost three in the morning here in Montréal. I’m taking a little break in a 24 hr coffee shop to collect some thoughts and do a little writing.

On Monday I participated in the doctoral symposium as on observer and then presented the poster from 5-8.

I passed out a few business cards and had some good conversations. I’m definitely coming away from the conference with some excitement about getting my research behind me. I don’t think I’m too far off… obviously I need to finish up the demo and make good on some future milestones (like using real metamodels and metamodel transformations in my system), but the scope of the ideas seems to be broad enough.

I’m also happy with my decision to make source code control a central part of the story. A lot of the metamodelling/metatooling stuff I’ve seen is getting pretty advanced and difficult to differentiate between. But one aspect that doesn’t get enough attention (imho) is versioning. Though I doubt this will be the case for long.

More tomorrow. I’ll get back to the coding again soon, and so I’ll have more technical posts in the next couple of weeks.
